Stefan Mols and Joe Nuttall were on target as Blackburn Rovers beat Newcastle United 2-0 to move within a point of promotion and the Division 2 title, at Leyland.
Mols (pictured), in his first match for five months after injury, headed Rovers into a 51st-minute lead.
Nuttall sealed the victory when he touched in his 21st of the season from close range in the 75th minute.
Blackburn entertain second-placed Aston Villa next Monday and will win the title if they avoid defeat.
They lead Villa by seven points, with the Midlanders having a match in hand.
Newcastle stay 11th in the table.
