Southampton have completed the signing of midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Bayern Munich for an undisclosed fee.
The 20-year-old, who has signed a five-year deal is the Saints' second signing of the summer, after Nathan Redmond from Norwich City.
Hojbjerg, who has spent loan spells at Augsburg and Schalke over the last 18 months, has been capped 15 times by Denmark.
Southampton, who are under a new manager in Claude Puel, are first in pre-season action when they travel to Hartlepool United on 20 July.
Their 2016/17 Premier League begins with a home match with Watford on 13 August.
Hojbjerg expressed his pleasure at this “big opportunity” and hoped to repay the faith Saints had showed in signing him.
“When I heard that Southampton came in for me I said to my people that this is what I want to do because I can see myself at Southampton, as it’s the way I like to think, the way I like to play and it fits me really well,” he told saintsfc.co.uk.
“I hope I can come here also and be a part of the Southampton family and give what I have to fight for the club and fight for my teammates.”
Southampton’s executive director of football, Les Reed, was delighted with the signing of the “exciting young talent”.
“Pierre boasts an impressive pedigree, as well as a great deal of potential, and it is testament to our reputation that he has chosen Southampton ahead of other suitors as the next step in his career,” he said.
