Birmingham City boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation with a comprehensive win over fellow strugglers Portsmouth at St Andrew's.
Jiri Jarosik gave the Blues the perfect start with a fifth-minute opener, and Jermaine Pennant doubled the lead before half-time.
Matthew Upson made it 3-0 in the second period and stoppage-time goals from Mikael Forssell and David Dunn completed the crucial win.
Birmingham leapfrogged Portsmouth into 18th place, moving within three points of safety. Portsmouth dropped to 19th, two points behind their hosts.
2012: Fulham 5-2 Newcastle United
Clint Dempsey stole the show with a hat-trick as Fulham triumphed over Newcastle at Craven Cottage.
Danny Guthrie gave the visitors a half-time lead, but Danny Murphy levelled with a penalty and Dempsey then scored twice before Bobby Zamora scored Fulham’s second spot-kick of the match.
Hatem Ben Arfa pulled a goal back for Newcastle on 85 minutes but Dempsey had the final word, completing his treble.
Fulham moved up to 12th with 26 points while Newcastle stayed sixth on 36 points.
