Dennis Bergkamp scored an iconic Premier League goal as Arsenal dented Newcastle United’s title hopes.
Bergkamp silenced St James’ Park with a moment of sublime brilliance after 11 minutes. Robert Pires played it to the Dutchman on the edge of the area. The Dutchman flicked the ball past one side of Nikos Dabizas while turning beyond the other, before slotting past Shay Given.
Sol Campbell added a second goal before half-time that was enough to move Arsenal into second on 57 points, level with Manchester United.
The defeat left Newcastle two points behind in fourth on 55 points.
2004: Chelsea announce Robben
Chelsea announced the signing of Arjen Robben from PSV Eindhoven, who would join in the summer of 2004.
Then 20 years old, the Dutch winger would make 67 PL appearances for Chelsea, scoring 15 goals and winning two Premier League titles.
