The Premier League will have two new regular referees next season after Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) announced that Simon Hooper and David Coote are to be promoted to Select Group 1 ahead of 2018/19.

Last season Hooper, above left, took charge of 42 matches across all competitions, including Newcastle United v Burnley in the Premier League.

He was also referee for the League One play-off semi-final between Charlton Athletic and Shrewsbury Town.

Coote refereed 36 matches across all competitions, which included Newcastle's Premier League home match against West Bromwich Albion.

He was also in the middle at Wembley Stadium for Tottenham Hotspur’s FA Cup win over AFC Wimbledon.

"We’re delighted to welcome both Simon and David into Select Group 1," PGMOL Managing Director Mike Riley said.

"They have performed extremely well in their matches as part of the Select Group 2, and in the Premier League fixtures they’ve been involved in to date.

"They will both make a positive contribution to the Select Group next season and we look forward to helping with their continued development."
