2003: Middlesbrough 0-4 Arsenal

Arsenal scored three times in the opening 22 minutes en route to a stylish 4-0 victory over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

Thierry Henry, Gilberto Silva and Sylvain Wiltord struck the early goals, and Wiltord doubled his tally on the hour-mark.

Arsenal's triumph left them with two wins from two matches, while Middlesbrough were left contemplating their second successive defeat.

2009: Liverpool 1-3 Aston Villa

Aston Villa beat Liverpool for the first time in almost eight years as they triumphed 3-1 at Anfield.

Lucas Leiva's own goal gave the visitors the lead and Curtis Davies made it 2-0 moments before the break.

Fernando Torres halved the deficit in the 72nd minute but Ashley Young promptly scored a penalty at the other end as Villa replicated their previous victory over Liverpool - another 3-1 win at Anfield in September 2001.

Martin O'Neill's side climbed to 12th, with three points from their opening two fixtures. They moved two places behind a Liverpool side who had picked up three points from three matches.
