1995: Wimbledon 3-3 Newcastle United
Wimbledon and Newcastle United shared the spoils after a six-goal thriller.
Les Ferdinand gave Newcastle the lead inside the opening eight minutes, but Dean Holdsworth equalised for the home team and Efan Ekoku put Wimbledon in front three minutes later.
Ferdinand and Keith Gillespie replied with quickfire goals of their own, five minutes apart, as Newcastle took a 3-2 advantage into the interval. But Holdsworth’s second strike of the match secured a draw.
The result left Newcastle in top spot on 39 points, five points clear of second-placed Manchester United, whereas Wimbledon were a place and a point above the relegation zone, in 17th with 13 points.
1997: West Ham United 4-1 Crystal Palace
West Ham United emphatically beat Crystal Palace 4-1, condemning their visitors to back-to-back defeats.
John Hartson opened the scoring for the home side after 31 minutes and, although Neil Shipperley equalised, goals from Eyal Berkovic, David Unsworth and Steve Lomas ensured victory for the Hammers.
Victory moved West Ham up to 10th on 22 points, while Crystal Palace were 12th on 19 points.
