2001: Manchester United 6-1 Southampton
Ruud van Nistelrooy scored the fastest goal of the Premier League season as Manchester United beat Southampton 6-1.
Van Nistelrooy put United ahead after just 31 seconds and went on to complete a hat-trick in the 54th minute.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Roy Keane and Phil Neville also found the net for the hosts, while Marian Pahars scored Southampton’s only goal.
The result lifted Manchester United into fifth on 30 points, six behind leaders Newcastle United, while Southampton sat 17th on 16 points, with only goal difference keeping them out of the bottom three.
2013: Southampton 2-3 Tottenham Hotspur
Emmanuel Adebayor scored his first two league goals of the season as interim manager Tim Sherwood oversaw a 3-2 victory for Tottenham Hotspur at Southampton.
The Saints took a 13th-minute lead thanks to Adam Lallana but Adebayor equalised and a Jos Hooiveld own goal put Spurs ahead, just days after the departure of Andre Villas-Boas.
Rickie Lambert restored parity but Adebayor struck again five minutes later as Spurs climbed into seventh place on 30 points. Southampton’s defeat left them ninth on 24 points.
