1997: Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink joined Leeds United
Leeds United manager George Graham signed Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and his faith in the striker was paid off when he scored on his Premier League debut in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal.
Hasselbaink scored 16 goals in 33 PL matches during his debut Premier League campaign, after signing from Portuguese side Boavista.
The following season, Hasselbaink’s 18 goals in 36 appearances made him the joint Premier League Golden Boot winner, along with Michael Owen and Dwight Yorke, as Leeds finished fourth in the league.
He went on to sign for Atletico Madrid before returning to the PL with Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Charlton Athletic.
2014: Chelsea sign Cesc Fabregas
Chelsea signed former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona on a five-year deal, returning to the Premier League for Jose Mourinho’s side.
The Spaniard had spent eight years at Arsenal before moving to La Liga, and he settled back in the Premier League straight away.
On 13 September 2014, Fabregas recorded at least one assist for the sixth successive PL match, and he went on to set up 18 goals as the Blues won the 2014/15 title.
He won the League again in 2016/17, and the following season managed to get his 50th goal and his 100th assist in the competition.
