Dominic Calvert-Lewin's first-half goal gave Everton's top-six hopes a big boost as they moved to within three points of fifth-placed West Ham United with a 1-0 win over the Hammers.
Everton scored the decisive goal on 24 minutes when Ben Godfrey threaded the ball through to Calvert-Lewin, who took one touch before sending an angled drive beyond the reach of Lukasz Fabianski.
West Ham's goalkeeper tipped over Gylfi Sigurdsson's free-kick four minutes later as Everton threatened to double their lead.
The Hammers pushed for an equaliser after the break and Vladimir Coufal's first-time shot went beyond Jordan Pickford and against the post.
But Everton dug in and repelled further efforts, including a Tomas Soucek header that flew over, to claim a club-record fifth win in London in a single campaign.
Everton are in eighth on 55 points, but they will move level with West Ham if they win their match in hand at Aston Villa on Thursday.
