Callum Wilson’s superb overhead kick earned Newcastle United a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Palace enjoyed most of the ball in the first half but Newcastle went close when Wilson headed wide from Matt Ritchie’s cross.
Christian Benteke almost opened the scoring on 21 minutes but his free header came back off the base of a post.
The forward headed Palace in front 11 minutes into the second half, rising highest to convert Tyrick Mitchell’s cross.
The lead was short-lived as Wilson drew Newcastle level with his spectacular finish on 65 minutes.
Benteke had a chance to put Palace back in front but rolled his effort wide.
The Belgian also saw a late effort from a corner overturned after a foul by Marc Guehi in the build-up was picked up in a VAR review.
Their fourth consecutive draw drops Palace to 15th on nine points, while Newcastle remain 19th, three points from safety.
