An Ashley Young own goal proved the difference as Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Molineux Stadium to keep their hopes of European football alive.
On seven minutes, Jonny scored for a second successive match, firing into the top corner after Daniel Podence and Fabio Silva both had efforts blocked.
Wolves doubled their lead nine minutes before half-time when Marcal's cross was headed into his own net by substitute Young, who had replaced the injured Lucas Digne.
Villa searched for a way back in the second half and Ollie Watkins curled narrowly wide when one-on-one with Jose Sa.
The Villa striker eventually pulled one back from the penalty spot four minutes from time, having been fouled by Sa, but Wolves held on to the three points that take their season's tally to 49.
Bruno Lage's team are seventh, two points behind sixth-placed Manchester United having played a match more.
Villa are 10th on 36 points after a third straight defeat.
