James Ward-Prowse scored the 13th direct free-kick of his Premier League career as Southampton and Leeds United drew 1-1 at Elland Road.
Both teams had chances in the first 10 minutes, Diego Llorente heading a Leeds corner wide while Mohamed Elyounoussi shot straight at Illan Meslier.
Jack Harrison put Leeds ahead on 29 minutes, reacting quickest to poke in after Fraser Forster had spilled a cross.
Southampton were level on 49 minutes when Ward-Prowse arrowed his free-kick into the top-left corner, taking him clear of Thierry Henry and Gianfranco Zola in the all-time Premier League standings and behind only David Beckham's 18.
The match progressed in end-to-end fashion, Armanda Broja turning narrowly wide for Saints, before Raphinha dinked over from inside the area.
The draw means Leeds are 16th on 30 points, eight clear of the relegation zone, while Southampton stay 11th, with 36 points.
