A late own goal from Ashley Young meant Everton had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home against Brighton & Hove Albion.
A cross from Kaoru Mitoma flicked the thigh of the Everton defender and looped over Jordan Pickford to cancel out Vitalli Mykolenko's first-half goal.
How the match unfolded
Everton made a bright start as Abdoulaye Doucoure forced an early save from Bart Verbruggen, and they didn’t have to wait long to open the scoring through Mykolenko.
The Ukrainian left-back had his first effort beaten away by Verbruggen before the ball fell back to him, and his second shot deflected in off Lewis Dunk.
Dunk, who had already seen a goal overturned for offside, nearly made amends as his free-kick was brilliantly tipped over by Pickford in the second half.
But Brighton’s second-half pressure finally told in the 84th minute through Young’s misfortune.
It means Brighton climb to sixth, on 18 points, while Everton stay 15th on 11 points.
