Goals from substitutes Tyler Frost and Oli Pendlebury earned Reading a 2-1 win against leaders Southampton at Staplewood.
Southampton took the lead 10 minutes into the second half when Tyreke Johnson scored from close range.
But Reading were handed the chance to equalise after 72 minutes when Ramarni Medford-Smith was brought down by Kayne Ramsey in the area, and Frost converted the penalty.
All three points were secured with just nine minutes remaining when Fraser Forster was unable to keep out Pendlebury’s shot.
Reading stay in third place, but are now only three points behind Southampton.
