Son Heung-min
After a quiet first season at White Hart Lane and a wait for his first appearance of the 2016/17 campaign Son Heung-min made an immediate impact on his first Premier League start for Tottenham Hotspur on 10 September, against Stoke City.
His double-strike and an assist at the bet365 Stadium helped Spurs complete a 4-0 win, with his second goal also nominated for the Carling Goal of the Month award.
The Korean, who would be the first Asian to win the award, continued this form with another brace against Middlesborough on 24 September as Spurs continued their unbeaten start to the PL season, meaning that the attacking midfielder's September total of league goals matched his tally from his previous 28 matches. Son also provided an assist last month.
"It's not been an easy time for him but he got a chance, played like that, his mentality was great and he showed what he's shown us all in training," Toby Alderweireld told tottenhamhotspur.com. "It's a great example for the lads who aren't playing, if you do well in training you'll get a chance and then you have to take it."
Mauricio Pochettino has seen a different player from the one he signed a year before.
"I'm very pleased for him and his goals are helping the team a lot," the Spurs manager told the club website. "After one year and the summer he is a different person; he's more mature and he knows the league and he's settled in fantastically now."
