The two best Matchweek 1 teams in the Premier League will go head to head on the opening weekend, with Manchester United hosting Chelsea on Sunday 11 August.

History shows that Man Utd are the Premier League team to fear facing most on the opening weekend.

They are the kings of Matchweek 1, having won an impressive 18 of their 27 opening fixtures.

After Paul Pogba's early penalty Luke Shaw scored the decisive goal last season as Man Utd beat Leicester City 2-1, taking their average points return in opening-weekend matches to 2.15.

That is the best record for clubs who have played at least four Premier League matches.

United sit narrowly ahead of the 2.11 average of their opening opponents, Chelsea, who started last season with a 3-0 win at Huddersfield Town

Promoted Sheffield United have averaged 2.33 points on the opening weekend but have only taken part in three previous Premier League campaigns.

Saints and Seagulls hoping for better

Southampton have won only two of their 20 Matchweek 1 fixtures, both of which came away from home.

Saints will be hoping to add a third opening-weekend victory when they kick off the new campaign at Burnley.

Brighton & Hove Albion are the only current Premier League team without a single point on the opening weekend, having lost to Watford and Manchester City at the start of their previous two seasons.

Graham Potter's Seagulls face the Hornets again and will hope to improve on their first Premier League match last season, a 2-0 defeat at Vicarage Road.
