It was a relatively slow weekend of transfer activity but we shouldn't confuse that with an uneventful week in Fantasy Premier League Draft.
After three Gameweeks, we can officially be worried about the Sheffield United defence not repeating their exceptional performance of last season.
We should also be concerned about the Fantasy potential of Chelsea's backline.
As managers evaluate what we've learned thus far and attempt to adjust their squads accordingly, here are my suggestions for both short-term and long-term waiver wire pick-ups ahead of Gameweek 4.
GKP: Karl Darlow (NEW)
There isn't a lot to choose at the minute, with the appeal of Chelsea’s new stopper Edouard Mendy somewhat limited due to their defensive frailties. That said, if you need a short-term solution, Darlow at home to Burnley is the best of those likely to be available in your league.
DEF: Nelson Semedo (WOL)
There are two great choices who have recently arrived in the Premier League, with Semedo at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City's Ruben Dias coming into the game this week. Semedo is the stronger option because we have seen Wolves’ wing-backs be productive with goals, assists and clean sheets, whereas Dias is going to have to be part of a big overall improvement in the City defence. The former is pretty well proven, the latter seems like a bit of a projection. If you're looking for a shorter-term solution, you could do worse than riding the Everton wave with Seamus Coleman against Brighton & Hove Albion.
MID: Ross Barkley (AVL)
It is always interesting when transfers happen within the Premier League because it means that the player is readily available. Barkley's move to Aston Villa gives him a chance to shine after falling down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. An attacking group including Jack Grealish, Ollie Watkins and John McGinn alongside Barkley feels potent. Shorter-term options include Andros Townsend and Grady Diangana in hopes that one or both keep up their scorching early-season form against defences who haven't been great.
FWD: Callum Robinson (WBA)
The availability of quality forward options is always an issue but it seems particularly pronounced this week. Robinson was a great story last weekend against Chelsea but it definitely felt more like a one-off than the start of something. Robinson, Aaron Connolly and the hope that Eddie Nketiah gets a start are likely your options in an eight-team league. I'd go in that order if I were in need of a forward on waivers.
