Arsenal have strengthened their midfield by signing Martin Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid for the remainder of the season.
The Norway international, who has 25 caps, joined Real Madrid in 2015 and is the youngest player to appear for the club, having made his debut aged 16 years and 157 days.
The 22-year-old has spent most of the last three seasons on loan at SC Heerenveen, Vitesse and Real Sociedad, scoring 18 goals in all competitions across those spells.
Odegaard created 62 chances and had an expected assists total of 6.8 in LaLiga last season, ranking among the top five players in both categories for those aged 21 or under within the top European leagues.
"It's great that we've secured Martin to come to us until the end of the season," Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta told the club's official website.
Odegaard's first Arsenal interview
"Martin is of course a player that we all know very well and although still young, he has been playing at the top level for a while.
"Martin will provide us with quality offensive options and we’re all excited to be integrating him into our plans between now and May."
Odegaard becomes the Gunners' third signing of the January transfer window after Omar Rekik and Mat Ryan and will wear the No 11 shirt.
