The Magpies visit Crystal Palace this weekend before facing two of the bottom four clubs, West Ham United and AFC Bournemouth, in back-to-back matches.
While Kieran Trippier (£6.0m) is the go-to pick, his team-mate Schar also merits the attention of Fantasy managers.
The Swiss is the second top-scoring defender on 91 points, combining his 12 clean sheets with one goal and six bonus points.
Yet he is owned by just 13 per cent of managers ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 GMT deadline.
All-round potential
Newcastle’s form in defence has been impeccable since the Premier League resumed following the FIFA World Cup 2022.
They are the only side yet to concede from Gameweek 17 onwards, keeping a clean sheet in all four of their matches.
Schar has also boasted a major goal threat over that run.
His totals of eight shots, seven shots in the box, three big chances and six headed attempts are all more than any other defender in Fantasy.
That aerial threat could prove a major factor for the Magpies over their upcoming schedule.
Their next three opponents rank among the six sides conceding the most shots from set-pieces since domestic action resumed.
When that factor is combined with Newcastle’s clean-sheet prospects, Schar offers a strong short-term solution in defence alongside Trippier.
