Liverpool head coach Arne Slot says Mohamed Salah's new contract will provide a boost in helping the club sign new players.
The Egyptian signed a two-year deal on Friday which ended any doubts that he would leave the club at the end of the season on a free transfer.
"If I’d put myself in the shoes of a player we might want to sign, it is always nice to tell them while presenting our project that Mo Salah has signed a new contract," Slot said in his pre-match press conference.
"That helps but what helps the most is that we kept a quality player who has scored for seven or eight years in a row so many goals for us.
"As I said, football is a game where we are mostly judged on the goals we score and the ones we do not concede. So it's helpful to have a player who scores goals. That's for sure."
"He has shown at this club for so many years in a row how much of a value he is for the club and the team. As like all our fans and his team-mates, we are very happy that he has extended or two more years.
"And hopefully, he can show on Sunday again [against West Ham United in the Premier League] how important he has been for us all season.
"For the fans, it's a relief. I don't think it's a surprise for you that I knew a bit better how his contract situation went over the course of the whole season and that things were heading in the right direction.
"It's also a big compliment to [sporting director] Richard [Hughes] that he has achieved to extend Salah, who is such a great player and as a free agent, can go to any club in the world he wants to. But he has stayed at our club and that's also a compliment to Richard.
"Effort mostly means money! But also effort, not only money.
"He's always been judged as a player, which is what you should do. But I also get to see him as a human being and he's a humble person, always wants to work. Always puts a lot of effort in. He wants to stay at that level.
"What makes him special on the pitch is that Mo can score a goal if he's not in the best moment, he's mentally so strong. You need to be that to be at his level. How mentally strong he is is what makes him standout for me.
"It's not just about this season, it's about next and the one after. Mo is fairly convinced we're able to do that. That's positive for us."
