Marco Asensio has made a big impact since joining Aston Villa in the January window, however, he joined a small unwanted group of Premier League players when he missed two penalties in the 3-0 win at Southampton.

The Villa midfielder became only the fourth player to miss two penalties in a Premier League match, and the first in nine years, as Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale went twice to his left to parry the Spaniard’s spot-kicks. However, the second save was in vain as John McGinn followed up to score Villa’s third.
Saido Berahino was the most recent player to miss two spot-kicks in the same match, when he saw two penalties for West Bromwich Albion saved by Heurelho Gomes in a 1-0 defeat against Watford in April 2016.
Gomes denies Berahino twice from the spot
Gomes also saved two penalties six years earlier from Sunderland forward Darren Bent for Tottenham Hotspur. However, Bent also beat him once from the spot in a 3-1 win for Sunderland.
The first player to miss two spot-kicks was Juan Pablo Angel for Villa, who saw both his penalties saved by Fulham’s Edwin van der Sar in February 2005.
Those misses proved costly as Fulham snatched a stoppage-time equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage.
While Asensio is one of only four players to see two of his penalties saved in a match, Aaron Ramsdale's heroics are rather more commonplace in the Premier League.
He is one of nine goalkeepers to stop two penalties in a match, with it happening on 10 occasions thanks to Gomes's double feat.

Aston Villa's subs make history
Along with Villa's 3-0 win, there was another positive from Saturday's match in that the Villans made a bit of Premier League history.
With Ollie Watkins, Donyell Malen and John McGinn all scoring after coming off the bench, it makes Villa the first team in Premier League history to have three substitutes score in the same match.
