The internet can be a great place for children to play games, learn and stay in touch with friends and family, but being safe online can be challenging.

Tuesday 7 February marks Safer Internet Day, a day in the calendar when people and organisations work together with the aim of making the internet a safer and more positive place for young people, especially primary school children.

To highlight the day, the Premier League has launched "Want to talk about it?". This is a new set of free downloadable resources available via the Premier League Primary Stars programme for teachers to use both in the classroom and assembly.

Learning strategies at school

The resources use young people's passion for Premier League football to engage them in learning, encouraging discussion on how technology can have both a positive and negative impact on our wellbeing.

Topics covered also include tips on using the internet safely, strategies for dealing with difficult online scenarios and how to identify activities that can be done away from the internet.

Continued safeguarding

Safeguarding remains a priority for the League and our clubs and support has been given to club academy staff, players and their community organisations about online safety and how to stay safe online.

Working with organisations such as the NSPCC and Childnet, the Premier League has been able to offer club staff the opportunity to learn more about online safety through webinars, providing them with the tools to promote safety and wellbeing, and minimise the opportunity for children and adults at risk to be harmed or exposed to harmful or inappropriate behaviour and content online.
