Colchester United scored twice in the opening 20 minutes to set up a 2-1 victory over Manchester City in Premier League Cup Group C at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Matt Briggs and Dexter Peter both found the net from corners before Paolo Fernandes replied just after the half-hour mark.
But Man City could not find the equaliser and the U's held on to go top of the group, one point ahead of Hull City. Man City stay third after their second defeat in three group matches, two points above Derby County. There are six rounds of matches in each group.
