Former Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has announced his retirement from professional football.
The Germany international hangs up his boots at the age of 34, having made 184 Premier League appearances.
Ozil became Arsenal's record signing when he arrived in 2013 from Real Madrid, and his 19 assists in 2015/16 were only one away from the highest ever total for a single Premier League season.
“It has been an amazing journey filled with unforgettable moments and emotions,” Ozil said on Instagram.
“Thank you to all my fans who have shown me so much love no matter the circumstances and no matter which club I was representing.”
Ozil scored 33 goals and provided 54 assists in the Premier League and lifted the FA Cup four times during his seven seasons with Arsenal.
He made 92 appearances for Germany, scoring 23 goals, and was part of the squad that won the FIFA World Cup 2014.
Everyone at the Premier League wishes Mesut well for his future.
