Ahead of the 2022/23 Premier League Cup final between Brentford and Blackburn Rovers at the former's Gtech Community Stadium on 9 May, 19:45 BST kck-off, we look at three players who have been key to the Bees' progress to a potential first Premier League youth trophy.
Alex Gilbert
The forward (pictured above) joined Brentford B after a successful trial in September 2020, impressing in a number of pre-season fixtures.
The Irishman rose through the youth ranks with West Bromwich Albion to break into the Under-18 set-up.
The 21-year-old scored two goals in the final fixture at Griffin Park while on trial, the second a stunning effort from outside the box.
Gilbert made his first-team debut in January 2021 in the Emirates FA Cup against Middlesbrough and became captain of the B team at the start of the 2022/23 season. He is the Bees' top goalscorer in the Premier League Cup, with eight goals.
Michael Olakigbe
Joined in the summer of 2022 from Fulham.
An England international at youth level, the 19-year-old was part of the Fulham youth set-up since 2018, featuring in the Under-18 and Under-23 sides. In the 2021/22 Under-18 PL season he made 22 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists.
Olakigbe has become a key player for Brentford this season and look out for his pace out wide.
Ryan Trevitt
Signed for Brentford in January 2021 after a trial, scoring in his first game in a 1-0 win over Aldershot Town and also against Maidenhead United and Huddersfield Town B while on trial.
He made his first-team debut against Colchester United in the Carabao Cup in August 2022 in a 2-0 win. He also featured in the Emirates FA Cup against West Ham United.
