Manchester City have confirmed the return of Juanma Lillo to Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff.

The 57-year-old was appointed assistant coach to Guardiola in 2020, replacing Mikel Arteta, before departing two years later. While he was at City, they won two Premier League titles.

His return to Man City comes after one of Guardiola's assistants, Enzo Maresca, left to take charge of Leicester City following their relegation to the Championship.

“Juanma sees things no one else in the game sees,” Guardiola told the club’s official website. "He understands football on an incredible level, so he is the perfect person for me to work alongside.

“I have always been inspired by him – his knowledge of football, his intelligence and his humanity mark him out as a very special person in my life – and we have a shared ideology.
