It's a strike that has been nominated for the Budweiser Goal of the Month for August, but Kaoru Mitoma already thinks his dribble and finish at Wolverhampton Wanderers last month is his favourite of the eight he has scored in the Premier League.
The Japanese winger has lit up the Premier League since joining Brighton & Hove Albion in 2021, scoring eight times and providing as many assists, with many coming as a result of his amazing dribbling skills.
In the latest episode of Uncut on the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Mitoma speaks about his Premier League goals and picks out the one at Molineux as the best, which showcased his speed and skill with devastating effect.
“The moment when I beat the opposing player, this moment…," he says. “There was space in front of me and the opposing centre-back was on the right, so there was a big space.
“I thought I could create a one-on-one situation at that moment, so I accelerated.
“I was just going to keep running around and I changed the rhythm a bit. I decided to go for the goal the moment I passed the first opposing player.”
In the video, the winger, who is also on the shortlist for the EA SPORTS Player of the Month for August, opens up about the positive impact he has been making back in his home country.
“I am very happy that so many Japanese people are coming to the stadium and supporting Brighton," he adds.
“That makes me feel like I’m representing Japan, and to make Japanese football more exciting, I have to play an active role, so they are a real boost for me.”
Mitoma also reveals which ex-Manchester United player mist influenced his style of play.
