Millions of Fantasy Premier League managers endured a disappointing start to Gameweek 8 as the second most-captained player, Son Heung-min (£9.4m), blanked.

Six goals across his previous four outings coupled with a favourable fixture away to Luton Town prompted a wave of support for the Tottenham Hotspur star, who was backed by over 1.7million people with the armband.

Only Erling Haaland (£14.1m) has been captained in greater numbers in a Gameweek this season.

Of the top 100 managers, only 23 went for Haaland, with 39 going for Son, who has also been Triple-Captained by more than 34,000.

GW8 most-captained players
Player Captained by Pts
Haaland 5,253,846 2
Son 1,777,421 3
Salah 679,861 15
Maddison 473,369 6
Watkins 321,974 5

Son was recruited by more than 1.4m ahead of Gameweek 8, the fifth-highest total on record.

All-time most-transferred in players
Player Gameweek Transferred in by Pts
Ronaldo GW4 21/22 2,206,177 13
Son GW5 20/21 1,991,731 13
Salah GW12 22/23 1,573,624 3
Salah GW26 21/22 1,481,959 28
Son GW8 23/24 1,457,982 3

However, the curse of the most-transferred in player returned as Son managed just three points, despite having two shots in the box and creating two chances including a gilt-edged opportunity for Pedro Porro (£5.1m).

The 473,000+ who entrusted James Maddison (£8.0m) with the captaincy fared better as he returned six points, laying on the assist for Micky van de Ven (£4.5m), who scored the only goal of the match.
