Newcastle United secured third place in Division 2 ahead of their bid for promotion through the play-offs in Division 2 as they finished the regular season with a 2-0 win against Middlesbrough.
Tom Heardman converted Dan Barlaser's free-kick at the second attempt before Adam Wilson netted from close-range as Newcastle scored both goals in the first half at the Riverside Stadium.
The result means Newcastle cannot be caught by fourth-placed Fulham, because the Cottagers are four points behind them with one match remaining.
Teams ranked second to fifth compete in the play-offs for promotion to Division 1. Boro have also finished their season, and they are 10th but could yet slip to 11th position.
