The Scout's panel of Fantasy Premier League experts discuss what to do with goalkeepers with some no longer their team's first choice, and other failing to produce many clean sheets.
What the experts say
Lee Bonfield (@FPLFamily)
I'll be keeping faith with Alphonse Areola (£4.3m). West Ham United's fixtures have been tough so far this season, but they now embark on a run that should produce plenty more shutouts. Four of their next five encounters score only two in the Fixture Difficulty Ratings (FDR).
West Ham's next five matches
GW | Opp. | FDR |
---|---|---|
12 | NFO (H) | 2 |
13 | BUR (A) | 2 |
14 | CRY (H) | 2 |
15 | TOT (A) | 3 |
16 | FUL (A) | 2 |
I also own Matt Turner (£4.1m), but it appears his time in Nottingham Forest's first XI might be limited going forward, so he would be a sell if you have the luxury of a spare transfer you could make on a goalkeeper.
Ben Crabtree (@FC_CrabDogg)
Given there are no obvious goalkeeper picks, sticking with Areola is OK as he's not far off the top points scorer. Sam Johnstone (£4.6m) is performing well and you'd want to play him, while David Raya (£4.8m) looks good for the next spell.

Nick Harris (@WGTA_Nick)
A goalkeeper transfer feels something of a luxury right now. If I was shopping, I'd be considering Johnstone. He looks good value with Crystal Palace and resolute at the back this season.

I was expecting Turner to lose his place at some point, however it was disappointing to happen at a time where Forest kept a clean sheet. Areola is my other goalkeeper and I'm happy to play him, despite only keeping one clean sheet this season.
If I was on the hunt for a new goalkeeper, Raya has a great run of fixtures coming up for Arsenal. Having Raya for the same price as Gabriel (£4.8m) also means not having to find space in my defence for the Brazilian defender or William Saliba (£5.2m).
Gianni Buttice (@GianniButtice)
Picking a reliable goalkeeper has been difficult in FPL this season. Historically I avoid the premium options who often don't clock the save/bonus points. I'm not happy with Areola as my set and forget, and do like Johnstone as an option, or even Raya, knowing Mikel Arteta seems to be persisting with him as the No 1.
Harry Daniels (@FPL_Harry)
Goalkeeper picks have been difficult this season. I still like the value in Areola until Chelsea's fixtures improve, then Robert Sanchez (£4.6m) could be a good long-term buy.
Mark McGettigan (@FPLGeneral)
I'm a happy Johnstone owner. The joint top-scoring 'keeper has a favourable run of fixtures over the next four Gameweeks. Areola owners should be open to a transfer given the lack of clean sheets for West Ham.
