Team news | Brighton vs Spurs | Romero out for a number of weeks

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt another injury with the news that Cristian Romero will be out for the next four to five weeks.

The central defender, who had only just come back from suspension, was forced off at half-time of Spurs' 2-1 win over Everton on Saturday.

“He's no good,” Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou told the club’s official website ahead of Thursday’s trip to Brighton & Hove Albion.

“He's had a scan, so he'll be out for four or five weeks.”

Romero joins a long list of Spurs players out through injury, including Romero's centre-back partner Micky van de Ven.

After Brighton, Spurs have home matches with in-form AFC Bournemouth and then Brentford, either side of a trip to Manchester United

Next five matches

Postecoglou is also set to lose leading scorer Son Heung-min as well as midfielders Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr next month on international duty.

Son is going to take part in the Asian Cup, which runs from 12 January to 10 February, while Bissouma and Sarr are set to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations, which runs from 13 January to 11 February.

Better news for Postecoglou is that left-back Destiny Udogie is back from suspension and that Van de Ven is nearing a return.

"He's getting closer," the Australian said. "I don't think [he'll be back for the FA Cup match with] Burnley, maybe for Man Utd but I wouldn't know until I see him in training.

"He's at the tail end of it now."
