The Scout's panel of Fantasy Premier League experts give their thoughts on who to captain in Gameweek 20 ahead of the deadline at 11:00 GMT on Saturday 30 December.
What the experts say
Mark McGettigan (@FPLGeneral)
With the Wildcard in play, anything is possible when it comes to captaincy this week! If either of Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) or Son Heung-min (£9.9m) survive the Wildcard, they will be the prime candidates. If not, Ollie Watkins (£8.8m) or Julian Alvarez (£6.9m) at home to Sheffield United will be under consideration.
Gianni Buttice (@GianniButtice)
There are several good options with favourable home fixtures, but I am torn between two; Salah and Phil Foden (£7.6m). Salah plays a Newcastle United team who have struggled defensively over the festive period, with an Expected Goals Against score of 4.95 over their last two games. They are on the ropes and Salah could capitalise.
Foden, meanwhile, is flying high after an exceptional FIFA Club World Cup and starring against Everton in Gameweek 19.
Ben Crabtree (@FC_CrabDogg)
I'm tempted to go with Watkins, but after being burned in a recent plum fixture, I'll go for Bukayo Saka (£9.0m) against a Fulham side who are capable of collapsing.
Sam Bonfield (@FPLFamily)
I'm tempted by Son in his last game for Tottenham Hotspur before heading to the Asian Cup against an in-form AFC Bournemouth side. Over 11 Premier League matches against the Cherries, Son has returned six goals and two assists. However, Watkins is tempting at home to Burnley.
Pras (@Pras_FPL)
Alvarez, on penalties in the absence of Erling Haaland (£13.9m), as well as boasting free-kick duties and playing up top for Manchester City, is the best captain this week. However, he is only good to own this week because with imminent returns for Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne (£10.2m), he becomes a sell very soon. If I owned him, I'd captain. After that, Salah or Son seem like good second-best options this week, and I'll likely be going with one of them.
Harry Daniels (@FPL_Harry)
Captaincy has been difficult recently for me. I currently have the armband on Salah against a tired-looking Newcastle team under the lights on Monday night. However, Watkins at home to Burnley is tempting me as a differential.
Lee Bonfield (@FPLFamily)
It looks likely that Haaland will miss out in Gameweek 20, so I'll back Salah. Newcastle have looked leggy and out of sorts in recent weeks, a trip to Anfield is the last thing they'd want.
