Newcastle United have been dealt another blow on the injury front, with Joelinton ruled out for "at least six weeks" due to a thigh injury.
The Brazil international sustained the injury in Newcastle's FA Cup third-round win at Sunderland last weekend, and could now miss a minimum of six Premier League matches, along with the FA Cup fourth-round tie at Fulham.
"It isn’t good, it is an injury that will see him miss a minimum of six weeks, it is a real blow for us," Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe told the club's official website ahead of his 650th match in management.
"He is such an important player. He has a problem with his tendon in his quad. He is very disappointed, he wants to play and do well - we have had to try and pick him up. He is our midfield driving force, it is a big blow."
Joelinton joins Callum Wilson, Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy among the notable absentees for the Magpies.
With Joe Willock and Elliot Anderson already ruled out of Saturday's home match against Manchester City, and Sandro Tonali suspended, Howe's side could have only Bruno Guimaraes, Sean Longstaff and Lewis Miley available as midfield options.
