David Silva

Described by his fellow countryman Santi Cazorla as “the master” Silva was the creative hub of a Manchester City side who won four Premier League titles.

Although he was short in height, slight of frame, and of quiet authority, Silva stood tall in terms of taking responsibility on the pitch, always happy to receive the ball no matter the circumstances, no matter the place.

Nicknamed "the magician", he dictated the tempo and carved open opposing defences with quick footwork or pinpoint passes.

Such was his legendary contribution during his decade with the club that City built a statue of Silva outside Etihad Stadium.

What they said

"David’s impact was not just at Manchester City, which was unbelievable, but at every team he played for - like Valencia, Eibar and the national team. He is the best I have seen playing in the pockets. He was one of the players who allowed for the success of this team." - Pep Guardiola

“I can’t think of many players from a rival club that have been a credit to the game on and off the pitch as much as David Silva. Immersed himself in the city, never complains, always plays and performs brilliantly.” - Gary Neville

"As soon as the ball rolled, you saw. You couldn't get it off him; he never lost it. When he came, that was when City started to compete for important titles... You watch his goals, his plays and it's truly magnificent. He's in the best three players I have worked with, without doubt. He was a player who made others better, everyone benefited." - Pablo Zabaleta

Did you know?

Silva was involved in 153 Premier League goals in his time in the competition (60 goals, 93 assists), the fourth-most of any player between his first (2010/11) and final (2019/20) seasons. His 93 assists were 27 more than any other player managed in that timeframe.

He played 309 Premier League matches for Man City, the most of any player for the Citizens. His 93 assists for City are bettered only by Kevin De Bruyne (106).

Since Opta began recording such data in 2003/04, no player has created more chances in open play in a Premier League match than David Silva v West Brom in March 2015 (11).
