What happened in Matchweek 31's reverse fixtures?

There's a really quick turnaround as the Run In continues with some mouthwatering midweek action in Matchweek 31 of the Premier League.

‌West Ham United will host Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday afternoon in a London derby that has a lot of implications. Spurs trail fourth-place Aston Villa by three points and have a game in hand.

West Ham's top six challenge suffered a setback at the weekend as they looked to be on course for a big three points at Newcastle United, but slipped to a 4-3 defeat bringing Eddie Howe's side to within one point of the Hammers.

With Villa traveling to the Etihad Stadium for a daunting game with Manchester City, Spurs could have a golden opportunity to pick up their point difference with a win. The need for a victory should produce fireworks from both sides.

‌Another matchup which could seriously impact the table is the battle at the Etihad, where third-place Man City host a Villa side one place below them in the table.

The Cityzens didn’t get the result they were looking for with a 0-0 draw against Arsenal on Sunday, and now face a three-point deficit to league leaders Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola’s side has very little room for error left as they look to retain their Premier League title, and that starts with getting a win over Villa.

City's home record against Villa is excellent - they have won 17 of their last 18 matches - but if the Villans pull off the win, it will be their first league double over Man City since 1962/63. With Spurs hot on their tail for fourth place, Unai Emery’s side would benefit massively by securing an unexpected result in Manchester.

NBC Spotlight

It’s always a fun sight when Chelsea and Manchester United square off, and that will be the case on Thursday afternoon at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues sit in 11th place, but are only four points behind seventh-place West Ham.

The odds aren’t necessarily in their favor, but a strong finish to the season could see Chelsea launch a late challenge for a European place once again.

A win over historic powerhouse United could be the perfect momentum booster for their young squad. The Red Devils have seen their chance at a top-four finish mostly slip away, and they are now 11 points behind Villa.

Even so, they will still want to hold onto sixth place and a win over Chelsea would see United complete a double over the Blues for only the second time in their PL history.
