Erik ten Hag has confirmed reports that he is in talks with Manchester United about a new deal.
United's shareholders INEOS conducted a review of the club's football operations after the team had ended the season eighth, their lowest finish in Premier League history.
But Ten Hag did steer the club to an FA Cup final win against Manchester City that earned him a second trophy in two seasons at Old Trafford as well as a place in the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League.
Speaking to Dutch broadcaster NOS on Sunday, Ten Hag said that while former Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel was approached by United, they decided to stick with him for a third season in charge of the team.
"Manchester United have told me that they spoke with Tuchel, but they eventually came to the conclusion that they already have the best manager," Ten Hag said. "Manchester United and I still have to find an agreement for the new contract.
“This isn't easily done, we are still going to have to talk about this.
"INEOS took their time. They are new in football, it's normal to reflect on the season. It's no secret that they talked with multiple candidates."
Ten Hag will find out Man Utd's Premier League opponents for 2024/25 on Tuesday, when the fixtures are released from 09:00 BST.
