After Douglas Luiz completed his move to Juventus, Aston Villa confirmed the signings of Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior from the Italian club on Monday.

Here, we profile the 23-year-old Barrenechea and former Chelsea youngster Iling-Junior.

Enzo Barrenechea

Born on 22 May, 2001, the Argentinian came through the academy system at Newell's Old Boys, in Rosario, Sante Fe, before joining Swiss side Sion in the summer of 2019.

He was on the move again in the January 2020 transfer window, signing for Juventus's Under-23 team.

Barrenechea's progress was interrupted by a cruciate ligament injury in 2021, but after returning the following year, he was rewarded with a first senior appearance for Juventus, coming on as a substitute in the UEFA Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain in November 2022.

His first Serie A start followed in February 2023, a 4-2 win over neighbours Torino, one of three appearances in the competition in 2022/23.

In search of regular first-team football, Barrenechea joined Serie A rivals Frosinone on a season-long loan last summer.

He made 39 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing one assist, but could not prevent Frosinone from being relegated to Serie B.

Standing at 6ft 1in tall, Barrenechea is a defensive midfielder who is also able to operate as a centre-back, with his ability to break-up play one of his main attributes.

Samuel Iling-Junior

Born in Islington, London, on 4 October, 2003, Iling-Junior started his career in Chelsea's Academy before joining Juventus in 2020.

He initially featured for the club's Under-23 side, alongside Leicester City winger Stephy Mavididi, before making his first-team debut as a substitute against Empoli in October 2022.

Iling-Junior made 18 appearances in total for the first team in 2022/23 across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

He played in a further 27 matches last season, primarily off the bench, ending the campaign with one goal and two assists.

In Italy, the 20-year-old played mostly on the left of midfield and is known for his pace, dribbling ability and physicality, standing at 6ft.

Of Congolese descent, Iling-Junior has represented England at all age groups from Under-15s to Under-21s.

He was part of the England squad who won the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2022.
