Kai Havertz (£8.0m) could be one of the standout forwards in Fantasy Premier League after a change of position for 2024/25.
The Arsenal star is among six players to swap positions in Fantasy this term, having been previously listed as a midfielder.
FPL position changes 2024/25
Player | Price | Club | Old pos. | New pos. |
---|---|---|---|---|
Kai Havertz | £8.0m | ARS | MID | FWD |
Ian Maatsen | £5.0m | AVL | MID | DEF |
Antoine Semenyo | £5.5m | BOU | FWD | MID |
Christopher Nkunku | £6.5m | CHE | FWD | MID |
Richarlison | £7.0m | TOT | MID | FWD |
Timo Werner | £6.5m | TOT | FWD | MID |
Although he did feature as a No 8 in his debut campaign for the Gunners, the versatile German secured his role as their lone striker as the 2023/24 season unfolded.
His change of position for Arsenal after their winter break in Gameweek 21 transformed Havertz’s attacking prospects in Fantasy. Playing up front, he scored nine of his 13 goals for the season – and supplied nine of his 10 assists - from that point onwards.
Indeed, Havertz’s combined total of 18 goal involvements was second only to the 22 of Cole Palmer (£10.5m) among all players in Fantasy over Gameweeks 21-38. If he continues to offer that all-round attacking output, Havertz can prove a strong contender for managers' forward lines in 2024/25.
Mid-price options
Tottenham Hotspur’s Richarlison (£7.0m) mirrors Havertz’s switch from midfielder to forward due to a similar change in role under Ange Postecoglou in 2023/24.
The Brazilian had mainly featured out wide for Spurs' previous boss, Antonio Conte, but he earned the majority of his minutes as a striker in Postecoglou’s first campaign in charge last season. Despite starting only 18 matches, he produced 11 goals and four assists.
Richarlison's Spurs team-mate Timo Werner (£6.5m), Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku (£6.5m) and AFC Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo (£5.5m) each change from a forward to a midfielder this season.
Nkunku is clearly the headline act of the trio here. While the Frenchman suffered an injury-hit debut campaign for the Blues in 2023/24, his all-round ability is underlined by 36 goals and 21 assists in his final two league seasons for German side RB Leipzig.
He is expected to occupy a wide role in the 4-3-3 formation favoured by the Blues' new head coach Enzo Maresca and has the schedule to attract early interest in the competitive £6.5m midfielder bracket. According to the Fixture Difficulty Ratings (FDR), six of Chelsea's first seven matches score only two.
Chelsea's first seven Gameweeks
Gameweek | Chelsea | FDR |
---|---|---|
1 | Man City (H) | 5 |
2 | Wolves (A) | 2 |
3 | Crystal Palace (H) | 2 |
4 | Bournemouth (A) | 2 |
5 | West Ham (A) | 2 |
6 | Brighton (H) | 2 |
7 | Nott'm Forest (H) | 2 |
Following his mid-season arrival at Spurs, Werner was mainly deployed on the left flank by Postecoglou, while Semenyo occupied a role on the right wing in Andoni Iraola’s maiden campaign in charge of the Cherries. After establishing himself as a regular with eight goals and four assists last season, Semenyo could be a strong value pick if he can build on that output once again.
Maatsen of interest?
Finally, Aston Villa’s Ian Maatsen (£5.0m) switches from a midfielder to a defender in 2024/25 Fantasy following his summer move from Chelsea.
Maatsen thrived as a left-back while playing on loan for Borussia Dortmund last season. The Dutchman scored twice and supplied two assists in his 15 Bundesliga starts and also helped the German side reach the UEFA Champions League final.
Villa’s kind early schedule gives Maatsen the chance to make an immediate impact at both ends of the pitch. According to the FDR, five of their first six matches score only two.
