West Ham United have announced the arrival of France international centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice on a season-loan loan, with an option to make the transfer permanent in the summer of 2025.

Todibo, 24, becomes West Ham's seventh summer addition, and will wear the No 25 shirt.

What did he have to say?

“It feels like the right time to be coming to West Ham, in the heart of London, with an amazing, passionate fanbase," Todibo told the official club website.

"I’m so excited to pull on the West Ham shirt, and play at the London Stadium in the Premier League."

Who is Jean-Clair Todibo?

Born on 30 December 1999 in French Guiana, the highly rated defender is considered to be coming into his prime after a stellar season in Ligue 1 for Nice.

Todibo joined Nice, initially on loan, from LaLiga giants Barcelona in 2021 before the move was made permanent later that year.

The 6ft 3in defender, whose form last season attracted the attention of Juventus, started his career at Toulouse before the five-time European champions came calling. Todibo made only four appearances at the Nou Camp before loan moves to Schalke and Benfica.

He signed for Nice in 2021 and reached 100 appearances for the club. Last year Todibo was rewarded for his form with a call-up by Didier Deschamps to the France squad, where he played twice, making his competitive debut in their record 14–0 win over Gibraltar in November.

West Ham’s 2024/25 transfer activity

It’s been a busy close-season, with West Ham one of the Premier League’s most active clubs.

Last week, Niclas Fullkrug arrived on a four-year deal from Borussia Dortmund, along with Argentinian World Cup-winning defensive midfielder Guido Rodriguez.

Earlier in the transfer window, former Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Max Kilman joined, with exciting Dutch forward Crysencio Summerville adding pace and power after agreeing a move from Leeds United.

Former Sheffield United goalkeeper Wes Foderingham and Brazilian winger Luis Guilherme also came on board earlier this summer.
