The 2024/2025 Premier League season will kickoff with new laws in place to increase the effectiveness of the game.
In association with International Football Association Board (IFAB) guidance to enhance effective playing time, referees will caution(yellow card) players when they are deemed to have delayed the restart.
A player will be cautioned if they are guilty of delaying the restart of play or failing to respect the required distance when play is restarted with a dropped ball, corner kick, free kick or throw-in.
Referees will be empowered by the game to take a more robust approach to dealing with clear/deliberate actions that are impactful in delaying the restart of play, such as interfering with the ball which clearly delays the restart of play or taking excessive time to restart play with a goal kick.
