The winning goal scored by Brighton forward Joao Pedro came in the fifth minute of stoppage time at the Amex Stadium.
It was the sixth time since the start of Erik ten Hag’s reign at Old Trafford in the summer of 2022 that Man Utd have lost to a goal in the final minute of normal time or later.
In contrast, in the 30 preceding seasons of the Premier League, Man Utd had only ever suffered two losses to goals scored in the 90th minute or later.

“I'm disappointed because we should have taken at least a draw,” Ten Hag told Man Utd's website. “We could have won as well but, in the end, you have no points and that is disappointing because it could have been very different.
“It is disappointing, especially when over long parts in the game, you have control and we are controlling the game in possession and we are doing so well. We conceded two unnecessary goals, very avoidable.
"That is our feeling, we concede two soft goals where we should act better as a team. We have to talk, we have to be aligned in such moments what to do and everybody knows their job and, as a team, we protect our goal.”
