After the excitement of the first three rounds of Premier League fixtures and a late flurry of transfer activity, a quieter week awaits as the top flight pauses for international action and August’s monthly awards shortlists are announced.
Monday
The final Premier League 2 fixture before the international break will be Liverpool travelling to face Sunderland at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground at 19:00 BST. Both sides have won one of their opening two league matches.
Tuesday
While their senior counterparts head off for international duty, a number of Premier League Under-21 sides will be in cup action.
In the Premier League Cup, Blackburn Rovers host Colchester United at 19:00 BST. There are also 16 matches in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, including Arsenal’s short trip to Leyton Orient at 19:00 BST and Newcastle United’s visit to Bradford City at 19:30 BST.
Thursday
Three matches into the Premier League season, the first monthly awards shortlists will be announced for August. Those in with a chance of being crowned EA SPORTS Player of the Month will be named at 11:00 BST, Barclays Manager of the Month at 12:00 BST, Guinness Goal of the Month at 13:00 BST and Save of the Month at 14:00 BST.
This time last year, the awards were dominated by fast-starting Tottenham Hotspur, with Ange Postecoglou claiming the first of three successive monthly manager accolades, while James Maddison and Son Heung-min took the early-season monthly player awards.
After a number of international friendlies over the previous days, competitive action returns with the UEFA Nations League.
A host of Premier League stars are likely to feature with Scotland, Northern Ireland, Portugal, Serbia and Spain among those playing at 19:45 BST.
Other players will represent their countries in a host of qualifying tournaments worldwide. The South American World Cup qualification campaign is approaching the halfway point of its league process, while the Asian equivalent has now reached the decisive third group-stage round, offering World Cup places to the top two in each six-team group.
The Premier League's African contingent will also be in action in the first Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers to secure their spots at next year's tournament. The 48 teams are divided into 12 groups of four, with the top two going through when qualifying concludes in November
Friday
The Premier League 2 Player, Manager, Goal and Save of the month shortlists for August will be unveiled.
The Premier League Cup continues for Under-21 teams, with Hull City hosting Leicester City and Sheffield United travelling to Sunderland at 19:00 BST.
More UEFA Nations League fixtures take place, with the likes of Wales, Belgium, France and Italy in action from 19:45 BST.
There's also plenty of young Premier League talent set to feature, including Tottenham Hotspur's Archie Gray and Taylor Harwood-Bellis of Southampton, as England face Northern Ireland in their UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifier at 19:45 BST.
Saturday
Attention will be on Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, where interim manager Lee Carsley’s England team take on Republic of Ireland in the UEFA Nations League at 17:00 BST.
All bar three of Carsley’s 26-man squad ply their trade in the Premier League, while most of their Irish opponents also play in the competition too.
Sunday
The UEFA Nations League matches continue with Northern Ireland in action at 17:00 BST and Scotland, Spain, Switzerland and Sweden among the teams playing at 19:45 BST.
