Cole Palmer has made history after becoming the FIRST player in Premier League history to score FOUR goals in the first half of a match.
Palmer's four goals came in the 21st, 28th, 31st and 41st minutes in a sensational first half against Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge, spanning 19 minutes and 57 seconds.

Since records began in 2006/07, only Jermain Defoe has netted four times in a match over a shorter period of time, timed at 17 minutes and 56 seconds in a 9-1 win over Wigan Athletic in November 2009.
Palmer and Defoe are among only four players to have scored four or more goals in one half in the competition, with Sergio Aguero doing so on two different occasions. There have been 41 instances of a player scoring four or more goals in a Premier League match.
Players to score 4+ goals in one half
Player | Match | Season | Goals |
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer | NFO 1-8 MUN | 1998/99 | 4 |
---|---|---|---|
Jermain Defoe | TOT 9-1 WIG | 2009/10 | 5 |
Sergio Aguero | MCI 6-1 NEW | 2015/16 | 4 |
Sergio Aguero | MCI 5-1 LEI | 2017/18 | 4 |
Cole Palmer | CHE 4-2 BHA | 2024/25 | 4 |
Closing in on ANOTHER record
Palmer has scored his first 10 Premier League penalties, with the England international now behind only Yaya Toure in the ranking of players who have scored the most penalties while maintaining a 100 per cent conversion rate from the spot.
Most PL penalties scored without ever missing
Player | Total |
---|---|
Yaya Toure | 11 |
Cole Palmer | 10 |
Dimitar Berbatov | 9 |
Raul Jimenez | 8 |
Ruben Neves | 8 |
Matching that record is easier said than done, and Ivan Toney fell agonisingly short in 2022/23.
Prior to facing Newcastle United in April 2023, Toney had a perfect record from the spot in the Premier League.
He had scored all 10 of his penalties, and he had the chance to equal Toure's record of 11, but his effort was saved by Nick Pope.
Ironically, Toney went on to score a penalty later in the same match.
Can anyone else get to 11?
Palmer isn't the only player who can reach Toure's figure, with another Premier League player still able to get to 11.
Raul Jimenez also netted from the spot on Saturday in Fulham's 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest, and has now scored all eight of his penalties in the competition.
