Alexander Isak has continued his phenomenal run of form, scoring for the seventh Premier League match in a row, and a look at Newcastle United’s fixtures suggests Jamie Vardy’s competition record for the longest scoring run is in danger.
Vardy set the record of scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League matches for Leicester City between August and November 2015.
Isak’s strike to give Newcastle a 2-1 lead at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday made him only the third Newcastle player to score in seven consecutive Premier League appearances after Alan Shearer (September-November 1996) and Joe Willock (April-May 2021).
The nature of that goal that Isak scored to equal Shearer’s record – a deflection of the ball in from close range – was what pleased the Newcastle legend the most.

“This, to me, means more than a 30-yarder,” Shearer said. “The scruffy ones from three or four yards out. You don’t get two goals for scoring outside the box!”
Speaking to Shearer after the match, Isak agreed: “I just got a toe on it, but they all count. I was telling my team-mates that those goals are the best ones."
It’s not the first time a player has gone on a seven-match scoring streak in the Premier League this season. Mohamed Salah did so between October and December for Liverpool until he blanked in the 2-2 home draw with Fulham.
Overall, 18 players have done it, but only five have taken the run to eight matches.

Newcastle’s next five fixtures offer an opportunity for Isak to equal and even beat Vardy’s mark.
After an EFL Cup semi-final first leg at Arsenal and a home FA Cup tie to Bromley, Newcastle are next in Premier League action on 15 January at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, before hosting AFC Bournemouth three days later.
They then travel to bottom club Southampton before hosting Fulham, where Isak could match Vardy’s record. If he does, he could beat it at Manchester City on 15 February.
