Manchester City have completed the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush, who has signed a contract until the summer of 2029.

The 25-year-old Egypt international has caught the eye in the Bundesliga and the UEFA Europa League, scoring 20 times and contributing 13 assists in all competitions already this season.

Marmoush's form has alerted the attention of Man City, who have moved to make him their third signing of the January transfer window. He will wear the No 7 shirt.

What did he have to say?

“To sign for Manchester City – one of the best teams in the world – is an amazing feeling. I am delighted, my family are so proud, and we are all very happy to be here in Manchester,” Marmoush said on Man City's official website.

“With Pep, his technical staff and the world-class facilities here, players have everything they need to improve. That was really enticing for me when I had the chance to come here.

“And I cannot deny I also want to win trophies. City have been the most successful club in England for many, many years, so I know I am joining a winning environment and winning culture. I want to learn from the staff and my team-mates, and I want to become a valued member of this winning team."

Where does he fit in?

The Premier League champions have been short of frontline options since the departure of Julian Alvarez last summer.

Alvarez was sold to Atletico Madrid, with Man City opting to strengthen other positions instead of replacing him.

Like the Argentina international, Marmoush is versatile and can operate in a number of attacking positions.

His arrival adds competition and support to top scorer Erling Haaland, Guardiola’s only specialist striker, who has played every Premier League match so far this season, scoring 17 top-flight goals.

What will he bring?

Marmoush is second only to international team-mate Mohamed Salah for goal involvements across the top five European leagues this season, so he will add creativity and an eye for goal.

He sits just one goal behind Harry Kane in the Bundesliga scoring charts, with 15, and he has also struck four times in six UEFA Europa League matches. Only Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen has attempted more shots in the competition than his 22.

Marmoush joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer from fellow German club Wolfsburg in 2023, having scored only five league goals in three seasons.

But he hit the ground running at his new club, scoring 17 goals in his debut season. He has already bettered that total this campaign, convincing Man City to bring him to the Etihad Stadium.

Marmoush is a product of the Wadi Degla youth academy in his native Cairo. He made the move to Europe at 18 years of age, signing for Wolfsburg’s reserve side before stepping up to the first team in 2020.

Inspired by Salah

Marmoush has previously spoken of his determination to make as big an impact as his countryman Salah.

"He managed to become one of the three best players in the world," Marmoush told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.

"That inspires me, and it's something I also want to achieve. We're in touch. The contact between the Egyptian players in Europe is very good.

“We try to support each other because we know it isn't easy to make the transition to Europe.”
