Mohamed Salah had another landmark day in an incredible season as his two goals not only secured Liverpool a big three points against Southampton but moved him level with Sergio Aguero in fifth spot in the rankings of the Premier League's all-time leading goalscorers and equalled a record for goal involvements in a Premier League season.

The Egyptian's two second-half penalties took Salah's Premier League tally to 184 goals, level with Aguero, who overtook Thierry Henry as the top-scoring player from outside the UK in the competition's history with a hat-trick in Manchester City's 6-1 win at Aston Villa in January 2020.
Aguero took 275 Premier League matches to reach 184 goals, with Salah reaching that total in his 292nd appearance. And with nine matches of the season remaining, Salah looks set to overhaul Andrew Cole, who is fourth in the overall rankings with 187 goals.
"I knew about the record, but I didn't think about it while I was playing," said Salah of becoming the joint-leading overseas scorer. "It's a good record to be equalling. Sergio was a great player, he was a legend for the league so I am happy about that and happy about the win."

Salah's latest milestone
Salah's double also moved him outright third in Liverpool's all-time goalscorers' chart, with 243 goals, overtaking Gordon Hodgson, who scored 241 goals between 1925 and 1936. He is now behind only Roger Hunt and Ian Rush, who scored 285 and 346 goals for Liverpool respectively.
His brace took Salah to a league-leading 27 goals scored and also equalled the record for goal involvements by a player in a Premier League season. Along with his league-leading 17 assists, Salah now has been involved in 44 goals in 2024/25, level with the 38-match records set by Henry (G24, A20) in 2002/03 and Erling Haaland (G36, A7) in 2022/23.
The overall records of 47 goal involvements in a Premier League season, set by Cole in 1992/93 and Alan Shearer in 1994/95, were both achieved in 42-match campaigns.
But Salah did beat Luis Suarez's Premier League record of 43 goal involvements set in the 2013/14 season.
44 – Mohamed Salah has been involved in 44 Premier League goals this season (27 goals, 17 assists), the joint-most by a player in a 38-game season, with only Andrew Cole in 1992-93 and Alan Shearer in 1994-95 involved in more in a campaign (both 47). Iconic. pic.twitter.com/im114rBBwo

It was also the 13th time out of 14 league matches at Anfield that Salah has scored or assisted a goal this season, including each of his last 12 in a row.
Only two different players have had a longer run of goal involvements at home in a Premier League season: Shearer, with 13 in 1995/96 and 15 in 1996/97, and Henry, with 12 in 2002/03.
Salah's two goals against Southampton also took to eight the number of different clubs that he has scored at least 10 Premier League goals against. Only Shearer has double figures for goals against more teams, with 12.
