Rahis Nabi scored with a minute to go as Burnley opened their Premier League Cup Group D campaign with a thrilling 4-3 victory at Newcastle United.
The home side looked as if they were heading for a comfortable victory at Whitley Park when Lewis McNall scored either side of half-time to put the Magpies 2-0 ahead with half-an-hour left.
But Burnley went 3-2 in front with three goals in 15 minutes from Harry Limb, Christian N'Guessan and Khius Metz.
Newcastle's Mo Sangare made it 3-3 with four minutes left before Nabi poked home the last-gasp winner from inside the six-yard box.
Burnley's next Group D match is against Colchester United on 2 November while Newcastle play Colchester on 4 December.
