2009: Darren Bent joins Sunderland in club-record deal

Darren Bent, who finished the 2008/09 season as Tottenham Hotspur’s top scorer, moved to Sunderland.

Bent netted on his debut - the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers - and finished the campaign with 24 Premier League strikes, which represented half of Sunderland's goals.

He scored another eight times in 20 PL fixtures in the first half of the following season, before becoming Aston Villa's record signing in January 2011.

2013: Tottenham Hotspur sign Roberto Soldado

Spurs broke their transfer record to recruit Roberto Soldado from Valencia.

The Spanish striker spent two seasons at White Hart Lane, scoring seven goals and contributing another six assists in his 52 Premier League appearances, before moving on to Villarreal.
