2008: Friedel joins Aston Villa
Brad Friedel signed a three-year contract with Aston Villa after moving from Blackburn Rovers.
On his debut against Reading the goalkeeper endeared himself to supporters by saving a penalty after just 10 minutes.
While at Villa Park, the American broke the record for successive matches played in the Premier League, making his 167th appearance in a 0-0 draw with Fulham.
In his final season with Villa, Friedel reached a landmark 250 consecutive league matches and became the oldest ever footballer to play for the club at 40 years and four days on his 400th PL appearance.
The former Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper moved to Spurs in summer 2011 and took his career appearance tally to 450.
He kept 132 clean sheets and is one of only five goalkeepers to score a Premier League goal, a feat achieved for Blackburn in February 2004.
2011: Courtois makes Chelsea move
Chelsea completed the signing of Thibaut Courtois from Atletico Madrid on a five-year deal, before loaning him back to the Spanish club.
The Belgium international spent the next three seasons on loan at the Madrid club, before returning to Stamford Bridge for the beginning of the title-winning 2014/15 season.
Courtois made over 120 PL appearances over four seasons for Chelsea, picking up the Golden Glove and a second title-winner’s medal in 2016/17.
The Belgian goalkeeper moved to Real Madrid in 2018.
